Recent Past Guest Speakers

The Seminole Sharks coaches and volunteer came to speak to us about their Youth Sports Program that is an affiliate of The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) of the U.S. Inc. Their mission: Seminole Sharks Youth Sports aspires to provide an outlet for youth where they can learn life-skills, develop conflict resolution skills and learn how to contribute to the community. We aspire to be a resource to help youth strive for academic excellence and understand its importance in developing a competitive edge on and off the field.

Andrew Neal came to speak about a nonprofit organization called Change This World, specializing in local and global hunger and works corporations, schools, churches, groups, and individuals to package food for those in need. By the end of 2012, they will ship about 3 million meals overseas to partner organizations. Locally, they have also built and run 3 food pantries in schools in Seminole County.

Sharlene Dewitz came to speak about Just 1 Book started by her daughter Sarah. Just 1 Book was started by Sarah at the age of 10. She wanted to help kids everywhere that didn't have books. She came up with the idea if every child in her school donated Just 1 Book then they could donate the books to children in need. Click here to read more about her story and how you can help out.

Adam Sherman, Lake Brantley High School Challenge Day Coordinator and English Department teacher, came to speak about Challenge Day. Challenge Day is a day-long interactive workshop where teens, teachers and community members experience for themselves that compassion and connection are indeed possible in our schools.
